Women's volleyball caps 2024 campaign with setbacks against Rutgers-Newark, King's College-PA

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team wrapped-up its 2024 campaign on Saturday, dropping a pair of non-conference matches at Rutgers-Newark's Golden Dome. In the Cougars' first match of the day, Medgar Evers fell to the Scarlet Raiders by scores of 10-25, 15-25, and 11-25. The Cougars were then turned back by the Lions of King's College-PA 4-25, 5-25, and 7-25. With that output, Medgar Evers finalized its season at 1-21. Rutgers-Newark improved to 12-16, while King's College-PA moved to 17-9.

In the loss to the Scarlet Raiders, the Cougars were paced by Britonya Lloyd, as she finished with a pair of kills while also tying for the team-high of five digs with Adacia Scotland and Jennifer Metra. Scotland also added a kill, while Metra's two assists and two service aces were also team-bests. Sarah Vallon added a kill, a service ace, and a dig in a losing effort.

Elvin Karakaya paced Rutgers-Newark with a match-high 10 kills, as she swatted .529 in the process (10-1-17). She also added four digs and three service aces, as well. Maryann Ijeh hit .700 (7-0-10), contributing seven kills, and Brianna Rojas finished with four kills and a match-high nine service aces. Angelyse Orellana and Aliyah Sanchez registered nine and seven assists, respectively.

For the match, Rutgers-Newark swatted .276 (27-11-58), while Medgar Evers hit in the negative (4-10-30, -.200). The Scarlet Raiders held a commanding 25-3 edge in service aces, while also piling 24 assists compared to two for the visitors. Medgar Evers did hold a 19-16 advantage in digs, however.

In the Cougars' loss to the Lions, Metra swatted .286, finishing with a team-high three kills to go along with a pair of digs. Lloyd contributed two kills and a team-best six digs, and Scotland added two kills, two assists, and five digs.

King's College-PA was paced by Antonia Leary as she finished with four kills. Riley McArdle swatted .800 (4-0-5), finalizing her afternoon with four kills while tying for the match-high of six service aces. Milena Oberle registered three kills and three service aces, and Bella Salvia finalized her day with six service aces. Finally, it was Keely Hoban leading all players with 11 assists.

King's College-PA swatted .340 on the afternoon (23-7-47) while Medgar Evers hit in the negative (7-12-38, -.132. The Lions piled 29 service aces, while also holding a distinct 21-5 edge in assists.
