Cougars defeated by Maccabees under the lights at Joseph F. Fasina Field

Box Score The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Maccabees of Yeshiva University by a score of 10-1. The match took place at Joseph F. Fasina Field in New Rochelle, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-12 on the 2024 campaign, while Yeshiva improved to a mark of 1-14.

The scoring got underway for the Maccabees in the sixth minute, when Leeby Levine redirected Agam Halperin's pass into the net to give Yeshiva a 1-0 edge at 5:47. 16 seconds later, Lauren Williams scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts. Within the ensuing six minutes, Yeshiva scored three more goals, courtesy of Maya Dennen (8:31, unassisted), Williams (10:30, unassisted), and Alexis Leibowitz (11:48, penalty kick). The Maccabees held a 5-0 advantage at that juncture, a lead they'd take into the break.

Consecutive goals by Elza Koslowe (47:32, from Maya Dennen, and 58:28, from Levine) made it 7-0 Yeshiva, and Dennen added her team's eighth goal at 60:29.

Medgar Evers did get on the board at 72:23 when Danajah Lawrence scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to make it 8-1. Yeshiva answered with two final goals, unassisted tallies from Levine (82:13) and Alexis Leibowitz (86:54), to wrap up the scoring for the evening.

Simone Amkraut got the victory in net for the Maccabees, as she allowed just the one goal while making three saves. Medgar's Seeta Tomby took the loss, however, she did make nine saves on the evening.

The Cougars will close out their 2024 campaign this Friday, November 8, as Medgar Evers will travel to Dix Hills, NY to take on the Sound of Five Towns College. Start-time is scheduled for 2:30pm.
