Trailing 11-7 in the opening set, Medgar Evers registered four of the ensuing points to pull to within a point, 11-10. Hagley earned a kill during that aforementioned spurt, with Mateo contributing an ace. The Lightning responded by rattling off six consecutive points thanks to four Cougars errors, an ace by Rodriguez, and a kill by Abreu Esteva. At that juncture of the set, Lehman led 18-11.

The Cougars clawed back with two straight points following a kill apiece by Hagley and Ramsey. That sliced the hosts' lead to five, 18-13. The Lightning then scored seven of the final eight points of the set to capture it, 25-14. Abreu Esteva was dominant in the latter stages of the set, registering four kills.

In the second set, Lehman led 8-4 before completely imposing its will on Medgar Evers. The Lightning outscored the visitors 17-2 to close the set, winning it 25-6. Esteva registered four kills in the second set, and as a team, Lehman College only committed one hitting error.

Medgar Evers showed some heart in the third set, rallying from a 21-18 deficit to win it. After a service error by the Lightning's Chris Mata brought the Cougars to within two points at 21-19, a pair of Ramsey kills knotted the set at 21-all. Attack errors by Neithan Pilay and Esteva pushed the Cougars ahead, 23-21.

After a Mateo service error halted the Cougars' run and brought Lehman to within a point (23-22), Medgar Evers closed the set with consecutive points, courtesy of a pair of kills by Ramsey. The Cougars won the set 25-22, and sliced their deficit in the match to 2-1 in sets.
