Women's volleyball drops CUNYAC Battle of Brooklyn in three sets to wrap up 2025 campaign

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team wrapped up its 2025 campaign on Tuesday evening, falling to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by scores of 6-25, 5-25, and 10-25. The CUNYAC contest took place at the West Quad Gymnasium in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars wrapped up their season at 0-19 (0-7 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs moved to 12-14 (5-2 CUNYAC).

Four Cougars tallied a kill apiece, including Maritza Argueta, Shanya Aitcheson, Danajah Lawrence, and Sariyah Brumaire. Lawrence's three assists were also a team-high, and Jennifer Metra's five digs led all Cougars.

Pacing Brooklyn was Ayatallah Elkotby, as she recorded a match-high four kills on the evening, hitting .375 for the night (4-1-8). Meadow Andrews, Ella Snobar, and Saule Okeke-Ziuburkus recorded three kills apiece, and Ruti Joshi's eight service aces led all players. Finally, it was Malia Reyes' eight assists serving as a match-high for the evening.

The Bulldogs dominated the opening two sets of the evening, as Medgar Evers never threatened Brooklyn throughout. The most competitive set of the evening was the third. A Lawrence kill drew the Cougars to within six (11-5), and Medgar Evers found itself down 10 (17-7) following a service error by the hosts, but the Bulldogs outscored the Cougars 8-3 the rest of the way to capture the set, 25-10, and the match, 3-0.

Brooklyn earned a hitting percentage of .410 for the night (21-5-39), while Medgar Evers hit in the negative. Brooklyn held a staggering 31-0 edge in the service aces column, while also holding a 19-13 edge in digs.
