Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Cougars swept by Bulldogs in CUNYAC Battle of Brooklyn Tuesday evening

The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team dropped a home match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by scores of 3-25, 7-25, and 8-25. The clash took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Medgar Evers moved to 0-8 on the season (0-5 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs improved to 8-11 (4-3 in conference action).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Malik Williams and Taosif Elahi tied for the team-high of two kills. Shabbir Ahmed tied for the match-high of six digs, and Jose Janvier contributed a kill and five digs. Nkosi Fraser's two digs were a team-high for Medgar Evers.

Jiaian Flanders led the way for the Bulldogs, registered nine kills on 11 attempts (.727 efficiency). Kevin Seise finalized his evening with eight kills on nine swats (.778), and Stefan Simon and Tylar Pina recorded five and four kills, respectively. Farid Akhundov's 18 assists led all players, and Armand Kaloshi's six assists tied for the match-high.

The Bulldogs cruised to victory in the opening two sets, before the Cougars kept things interesting early in the third. With Brooklyn holding a 4-2 advantage, Medgar Evers scored three of the ensuing four points, courtesy of a pair of hitting errors by Pina, and a miscue by Seise. The Bulldogs responded by scoring 12 consecutive points to snatch a commanding 17-5 edge, never looking back from there.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Cougars will take on Hunter College in a CUNYAC doubleheader, with start-times at the Cougars Cave scheduled for 6:00pm and 7:30pm. Prior to the match, senior Kayshaun Higgs will be honored for his dedication and service to the men's volleyball program over the past two seasons.
