Cougars defeated by Lightning in straight sets in CUNYAC clash at APEX Center

The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC match on Saturday morning, falling to CUNYAC foe Lehman College in straight sets, by sores of 3-25, 7-25, and 2-25. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-11 on the 2024 campaign (0-8 CUNYAC), while the Lightning improved to a record of 12-5 (4-5 CUNYAC).

Kayshaun Higgs led the way for the Cougars with a pair of kills, with newcomer Malik Williams adding a kill as well. Taosif Elahi's five digs tied for the match-high, and Shabbir Ahmed contributed three digs on the evening.

Veteran Ray Rodriguez recorded a match-high eight kills for Lehman College. He also added five digs and three assists on the morning as well. Oscar Calderon finalized his morning with seven kills, and Emmanuel Oladosu's 17 service aces were a match-high. Finally, John Zerafa's 10 assists led all players, and Jayden Diaz recorded nine assists on the day.

Lehman College cruised to victory, allowing just 12 Medgar Evers points over the course of the sweep. The Lightning earned a hitting percentage of .563 (31-4-48), registering 22 service aces on the morning.

Medgar Evers will return to action tomorrow evening, as the Cougars will take on the Bloodhounds in a CUNYAC doubleheader. Start-times at the Doghouse are scheduled for 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
