Camels' barrage of three-point conversions too much for Cougars as men's basketball drops non-conference affair

The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game on Monday evening, falling to the Camels of Connecticut College by a score of 89-40. The game took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Medgar Evers dipped to a mark of 0-15 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while the Camels improved to 11-4.

Connecticut College was paced by Elias Espinosa, as the standout connected on all five of his attempts from the floor, including three conversions from downtown, to finish with a game-high 13 points. He also snatched five rebounds, and tied for the game-high of five assists. James LaFrance netted 11 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing two assists. PJ Johnson Jr. finalized his evening with 11 points, two boards, and two steals, and finally, it was Cole Craffey scoring 10 points, collecting a game-high eight rebounds, and dishing three assists.

The Cougars scored on their opening possession and led for a brief moment, as Toure drained a jumper just 33 seconds in. Connecticut College responded by scoring 12 consecutive points to open up a double-digit advantage by the 14:53 mark. The visitors' advantage ballooned to 20 following a converted triple by Cantwell with 5:00 remaining in the session, and the Camels eventually took a 52-20 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Trailing 62-24 with 16:20 to go, Medgar Evers showed some signs of life with a modest 6-0 run (courtesy of a pair of buckets by Perez, and consecutive free throw makes by Grant) to pull to within 32 (62-30), but the Camels quickly snatched control back, outscoring the hosts 27-19 the rest of the way to account for the 49-point margin of victory (89-40).

The Camels were stellar shooting the basketball, connecting on 46.6 percent of their attempts from the floor (34-73), and earning an even better conversion rate from deep, draining 14 of 27 shots (51.9 percent) from long range. The visitors also shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line (7-9). On the flip side, the Cougars earned a conversion rate of 30.4 percent (17-56), nailing just one triple (1-18, 5.6 percent), and misfiring on eight free throws (5-13, 38.5 percent).
