The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team suffered a CUNYAC defeat on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lightning of Lehman College by a score of 79-56. The game took place at the APEX Center in the Bronx. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-20 (0-9 CUNYAC) on the 2025-2026 campaign, while the Lightning improved to 14-6 (9-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Joash Beaton posted a team-high 10 points, hitting a pair of trifectas in the process. Ahmed Toure contributed nine points, tied for the team-high of six rebounds, led all players with six assists, and tied for the game-high of two blocked shots. Finally it was Isaiah Grant finalizing his afternoon with seven points (3-4 FG).

In the victory for the Lightning, Tyler Harts connected on seven of his 15 attempts from the floor, and all six of his free throw attempts, to finish with a game-high 20 points. His four steals also led all players, and he contributed a team-high three assists on the day. Ricardo Dixon scored 16 points and snatched six rebounds, and Zay Marte (eight points) and Kesean Tracey (seven points, six rebounds, two steals) played key roles in Lehman's victory.

Medgar Evers trailed for the opening 8:17 of action before a triple by Toure gave the Cougars a 14-13 advantage. 53 seconds later, another bucket by Toure extended the visitors' edge to three, 16-13.

Later in the first half, with the CUNYAC clash deadlocked at 16-all, Beaton drained a long triple to put Medgar Evers ahead 19-16. Over the course of the next 4:35 of action, the Cougars held the lead, under a drained jumper by Harts gave Lehman a 24-23 advantage, a lead the hosts would not relinquish. Starting with that aforementioned bucket, the Lightning would close the period on 13-2 run to take a 35-25 edge as the horn sounded on the first half.

Over the course of the final 20 minutes of action, Lehman College would build a lead as large as 34 points (73-39). A late 17-6 charge by Medgar Evers made the final score somewhat more respectable, but the Lightning still won the CUNYAC clash handily, by 23 (79-56).

The Lighting were slightly more efficient shooting the basketball from the floor, with Lehman earning a conversion rate of 44.6 percent (25-56), and Medgar Evers draining 22 of 61 shots (43.1 percent). Lehman held a commanding 40-22 edge on the glass, but the Cougars earned 15 assists on the afternoon compared to just five for the hosts. The Lightning held a 12-6 edge in steals, and a 4-2 advantage in swatted shots. The hosts also won the turnover battle, committing just nine miscues, while Medgar Evers had nine.

Medgar Evers will return to the court on Tuesday evening, as the Cougars will travel to the West Quad Gymnasium in Brooklyn, NY to battle the Bulldogs. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 5:00pm.
