Match 1 of Doubleheader

In the opener, newcomer Christian Owolabi led the way for the Cougars, as he registered a team-high two service aces to go along with a kill and a dig. Veteran Kimahli Reid also contributed a kill as well as a solo block for the hosts despite the loss.

Isaiah Reece led the way for Valley Forge University in the first match of the evening, as he tied for the match-high of five kills on six attempts (5-1-6, .667). He also tied for the match-high of three service aces, while registering a dig. Jayce Blanton tied Reece with five kills (5-1-8, .500), and Dennis Lampreia tied for the match-high of three service aces. Finally, it was Tyler Patrick leading all players with 10 assists.

After the Cougars forfeited the opening two sets of the evening, Medgar Evers raced out to a 6-3 advantage in the third, with Owolabi notching a pair of service aces, and Reid recording a solo block during that aforementioned charged for the hosts. Valley Forge University then responded by rattling off 11 consecutive points, led by four kills from Reece, and three service aces from Lampreia. At that juncture of the set, the Patriots held a commanding 14-6 advantage.

An attack error by Blanton halted Valley Forge's momentum momentarily, but the visitors rebounded quickly by notching the next seven points (highlighted by three service aces and a kill by Reece) to snatch a 21-7 edge. The Patriots would eventually go on to win the set 25-12, and in essence, capture the match, 3-0.

Valley Forge University used 12 kills (12-2-20, .500), seven service aces, and seven digs to win the opener. The Cougars notched just two kills, hitting -.083 for the match (2-3-12) while registering two assists, three digs, and a solo block.

Match 2 of Doubleheader

In the second match of the evening, veterans Nkosi Fraser and Chrisnel Nicolas tied for the team-high of two kills. Finally, it was Shabbir Ahmed posting team-highs of seven digs and three assists for the hosts.

Valley Forge University was paced by Reece's stellar effort in match two, as he recorded a match-high of 11 kills (11-2-19, .474) while tying for the match-high of seven digs, notching three service aces, and registering two assists. Lampreia contributed five kills, five service aces, and three digs, and Drew White put forth a strong effort with five kills, a match-high eight service aces, and three digs. The Patriots raced out to a 6-0 advantage in the opening set of match two, courtesy of Patrick's four service aces, a kill by Chris Brown, and a bad set by Matthew Fleming. Medgar Evers scored three of the next four points, aided by three Valley Forge errors, to slice its deficit to four points at 7-3, but the Patriots would then score five straight (thanks to two kills by Reece, a kill and a service ace by White, and an attack error by Fraser) to take a commanding 12-3 advantage.

Medgar Evers refused to go quietly despite falling behind by nine, as the Cougars would answer Valley Forge's five straight points with five consecutive points of their own, with the latter four coming courtesy of service aces by Owolabi. That inched Medgar Evers to within four, 12-8, but Valley Forge would dominate the remainder of the set, outscoring the hosts 13-1 to win it, 25-9. Of those final 13 points scored by the visitors, five came courtesy of Lampreia service aces, while Blanton added two kills.

Trailing 7-6 in the second set, Fraser took advantage of a beautiful set by Shabbir, as he slammed the ball home to knot the set at seven apiece. Valley Forge responded with three straight points to pull ahead, 10-7, but another Fraser kill brought the Cougars to within two, 10-8.

Valley Forge University would then score nine of the next 11 points of the set to take a 19-10 advantage. During that aforementioned push for the Patriots, Brown recorded two kills, with Blanton and Lampreia adding one apiece. Patrick and White added one service ace apiece, as well.

Medgar Evers scored two straight points (courtesy of a Reid kill, and an Owolabi service ace) to close to within seven (19-12), but the visitors scored the final six points of the set (thanks to three service aces by Brown, a kill apiece by Reece and Lampreia, and an error by Reid) to take the set, 25-12.

The third and final set of the evening started promising for the Cougars, as Medgar Evers raced out to a 10-7 advantage thanks to a service ace by Fleming, a kill by Nicolas, and eight Patriots errors. Valley Forge University would respond with eight consecutive points, however, to catapult ahead by a score of 15-10. During that stretch for the visitors, White recorded four service aces, and Reece added two kills.

Later in the set, the Patriots held a seemingly comfortable 22-12 advantage, but a kill by Nicolas, and an attack error by Samuel Pazos, brought the Cougars to within eight (22-14). Then, Nicolas would serve the ball out, and Reece would notch a kill to give Valley Forge University a 24-14 advantage. The Patriots would win the set and the match two points later when Reece slammed home a kill to wrap up the evening.
