The Medgar Evers College men's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Beavers of the City College of New York by scores of 13-25, 9-25, and 8-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-8 on the 2026 campaign (0-3 CUNYAC), while the Beavers improved to 5-6 (1-1 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Chrisnel Nicolas paced Medgar Evers with a team-high three kills (3-1-5, .400) to go along with a pair of digs and an assist. Nkosi Fraser added a pair of kills, and Kawynzi Dalso added a kill, a service ace, and a pair of digs. Christian Owolabi finished with a kill, three digs, and an assist, and Ahmed Toure contributed three digs, two assists, a service ace, and a solo block.

Four players notched at least four kills for the Beavers, including Antonio Oliveira-Nurse, as he registered five kills on five attack attempts (1.000). Moustafa Elsabagh added four kills, a match-high nine service aces, two digs, and two assists, and Bosco Dong finished with four kills (4-1-5, .600), four service aces, a dig, and an assist. Roman Dishmey finalized his evening with four kills, five service aces, and a dig, and setter Kyrylo Vysotskyy and Adrian Campos Ponce notched 10 and seven assists, respectively.

Trailing 10-3 in the opening set, the Cougars put together a modest 4-2 run to slice CCNY's advantage to five, 12-7. That aforementioned Cougars run featured a kill apiece from Fraser and Nicolas. The Beavers then rattled off eight of the next nine points, with Amir Nabiyev highlighting that run with three service aces. At that juncture of the set, the visitors held a comfortable 20-8 advantage.

Later, with Medgar Evers trailing 22-9, the Cougars scored four of the next five points, with the latter of those points coming on Olowabi's kill. That brought the Cougars to within 10 (23-13), but CCNY finished off the set with consecutive points, courtesy of attack errors by Shabbir Ahmed and Kimahli Reid.

CCNY raced out to a 20-3 advantage in the second set, with Elsabagh registering six consecutive service aces, as well as a pair of kills, during that ferocious spurt. Later, trailing 22-5, the Cougars earned consecutive points thanks to a kill by Nicolas, and a service ace by Dalso. The Beavers responded by securing three of the next five points to win the set 25-9, and go up 2-0 in sets for the match.

The Beavers went up 6-0 in the third set, with Dishmey collecting four service aces, and Dong adding a kill. CCNY later built its lead up to 15, 19-4, before four consecutive Beavers errors (a pair by Dong, and one apiece by Elsabagh and Dishmey) inched Medgar Evers to within 11 (19-8). CCNY then squashed any chance of a Cougars comeback, though, scoring the final six points to win the set, 25-8. Alex Ortiz Mondragon notched four service aces during that final push, and Brandon Green clinched the win for the visitors with a kill.

For the evening, CCNY registered a hitting percentage of .347 (25-8-49) while piling 28 service aces, dishing 22 assists, and adding 16 digs. Medgar Evers hit -.143 (7-12-35), earning two service aces, compiling five assists, and adding 14 digs.

The Cougars will look to bounce back Wednesday evening, when they welcome the Yeshiva University Maccabees to Carroll Street for a non-conference doubleheader. Start-times for the matches are scheduled for 7:00pm and 8:30pm.
