The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team continued its impressive start to the 2026 season on Wednesday afternoon, remaining unbeaten with a dominant 7-0 victory over York College in a non-conference matchup at the York College Outdoor Athletic Complex. With the win, the Cougars improved to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0 in CUNYAC play.
Medgar Evers wasted little time establishing control, as Mariko Diarisso opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Diarisso finished off a chance assisted by Kevin Blackstock Jr. and Aljae Douglas, giving the Cougars an early 1-0 advantage.
The Cougars continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, eventually doubling their lead just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Mamadou Seye found the back of the net off an assist from Mouhammadou Diallo, sending Medgar Evers into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
Medgar Evers came out of halftime with even greater attacking intensity. Just over seven minutes into the second half, Shammar Edwards converted a penalty kick to push the Cougars' lead to three goals.
The Cougars continued to pile on the pressure as the second half progressed. Diallo added his first goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute, heading home off a pass from Seye to make it 4-0. Just over three minutes later, Edwards struck again, scoring his second goal of the match with Seye providing the assist.
Medgar Evers wasn't finished. Darius Villaroel found the net in the 80th minute, with Diallo and Shomarie Thomas combining to provide the assists. Seye then capped the scoring in the 83rd minute, completing his brace with Blackstock Jr. earning the assist.
Seye's two-goal performance highlighted an outstanding individual effort, while Edwards also registered a pair of goals. Diallo finished with a goal and two assists, Seye added two assists to his scoring total, and Blackstock Jr. contributed two assists. Overall, the Cougars recorded 32 shots, including 18 on goal, while York managed just seven shots and four attempts on target.
The defensive effort was equally impressive. Vendel Joseph earned the shutout in goal, making four saves as Medgar Evers held York scoreless for all 90 minutes. The Cougars also controlled the corner-kick battle, 7-1.
The seven-goal performance marked another statement showing for a Medgar Evers squad that has yet to suffer a defeat this season. The Cougars have combined consistent scoring with strong defensive play throughout their unbeaten start, and Wednesday's performance featured contributions from multiple players across the lineup.
Medgar Evers will now turn its attention back to conference play when the Cougars return home on Saturday, September 26, to host CUNYAC foe Baruch College at Linden Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.
