Women's soccer defeated by Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders in non-conference action Monday evening

The Medgar Evers College women's soccer team suffered a non-conference setback Monday evening, falling to Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders at Frederick Douglass Field.

The Cougars faced an early challenge as Rutgers-Newark found the back of the net 10 times during the opening 45 minutes. The hosts added three additional goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Despite the offensive pressure from the Scarlet Raiders, Medgar Evers goalkeeper Moutiatou Djibring made eight saves on the evening. Djibring made stopped five shots in the opening stanza, and three more in the second session.

Rutgers-Newark finished the match with 35 total shots, including 21 on target, while Medgar Evers was unable to generate a shot during the contest. The Scarlet Raiders also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Cougars will have an opportunity to regroup and turn their attention toward conference play when they return to action Saturday, October 3. Medgar Evers will travel to Flowers Park in New Rochelle to clash with the CCNY Beavers in a CUNYAC matchup.

The contest against CCNY will mark the Cougars' next opportunity to compete in conference play as they look to gain valuable experience within the conference ranks.
