Brooklyn, NY- As the 15th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Women's Basketball Tournament quickly apporaches starting this Saturday Nov. 30th, 2013 and would conclude on Sunday Dec. 1, 2013. The teams in the tournament are the host Medgar Evers College Cougars, College of New Rochelle Blue Angels, Pratt Institute Cannoneers, and the Yeshiva University Maccabees.
In the first game at 6pm, the Pratt Institute Cannoneers will battle the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels.
Pratt is entering the contest 1-1 Overall, and their win against Vaughn College Warriors back on Nov. 22, was the 1st in program history. The Cannoneers are led by Anna Bryce with 20 ppg. The Freshman Forward leads in every team category, with 19 rebounds, 9 asssits, 7 steals, and 2 blocks. Freshman Guard Becca Coplen is 2nd on the team with 21 pts tallied, and 5 steals. Freshman Guard Carol Cai is 2nd on the team, with 7 assists, and Junior Forward Donna Kolodesh is 2nd in rebounds with 15.
The College of New Rochlle Blue Angels enter the game 4-1 Overall. Junior Forward Jah-Leah Ellis leads the team in ppg with 23.8, rebounds with 65, and 3 blocks. Junior Guard Alyssa Pechin leads with 28 assists, and 15 steals.
In the 8pm, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will face the host Medgar Evers College Cougars.
Yeshiva enters the contest 1-3 Overall. Junior Guard Stephanie Greenberg leads the team scoring 20 ppg, and 14 steals. Senior Forward Rebecca Yoshor leads the team with 74 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Sophomore Forward Julia Owen leads the team with 25 assists.
Finally, the host Medgar Evers College Cougars enters the contest 1-2 Overall. Sophomore Guard
Nia Tompkins leads the team with 14.3 ppg, Freshman Forward/Center
Kimonia Mullings with 32 rebounds and 12 steals. Freshman Guard
Ashley Desir leads the team with 16 assists. Sophomore Forward
Antanique Williams leads the team with 2 blocks.
The Consolation Game will take place on Sunday Dec. 1, 2013 at 1pm and the Championship Game will start at 3pm.
