Senior Jennifer Metra caps storied Cougars career with second consecutive CUNYAC Sportsmanship award distinction

On the heels of the 2025-2026 CUNYAC basketball title games, the City University of New York Athletic Conference revealed its end-of-year awards, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Medgar Evers College's women's basketball team was represented by senior standout Jennifer Metra, as she captured the Sportsmanship award for the second consecutive season. Following the announcement of the distinction, Head Coach Rodney Carr gave his thoughts.

"Jennifer Metra has been one of the most recognizable and familiar faces in the Medgar Evers Department of Athletics over the past four years," Carr said. "We have played 86 games over the past four seasons, and she has appeared in 84 of them. Her consistency, intensity, grittiness, and overall strength are attributes that have made her one of the most decorated players to ever pass through this program. I'm very proud of her.

Metra's name became synonymous with Medgar Evers' women's basketball program since the moment she competed in her first game in November of 2022. Since then, she has approached each game with passion, intensity, and confidence, leading by example and always pushing to play her best for her coaches and teammates.

This season, Metra is third on the Cougars in rebounding, second in steals, and second in assists. For her career, Metra scored 662 total points, and her 206 assists are fourth on the all-time list at Medgar Evers. Additionally, she has amassed 196 steals, which place her third on the all-time institutional list.

The senior point guard went out on a hight note for Medgar Evers, hitting a game-winning buzzer-beating shot in a CUNYAC road game at York College back on February 17. It was a fitting sendoff for Metra, who never took for granted the opportunity to play college basketball.
