Senior Alexis Davis pours in team-high 31 points in Cougars' CUNYAC loss to Hawks on Friday evening

The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC road contest, falling to the Hawks of Hunter College by a score of 90-60. The game took place at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY. With the loss, the Cougars dropped to a mark of 2-21 on the 2025-2026 campaign (1-12 CUNYAC), while the Hawks improved to 18-6 (11-2 CUNYAC).
 
Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, three players scored in double figures, including Alexis Davis, as scored a team-high 31 points (12-24 FG, 7-9 FT) to go along with six rebounds (four offensive), three assists, and three steals. Aaliyah Lyons contributed 12 points, a game-high nine assists, and team-highs of four steals and two blocked shots. Newcomer Moutiatou Djibring scored 10 points and snatched eight rebounds, and Shanya Aitcheson's 10 rebounds was a game-high.
 
In the victory for the Hawks, Alexa Charles netted a game-high 34 points (14-19 FG, 4-4 FT) while leading all Hawks with eight rebounds. She also swiped a game-high five steals, while dishing five assists. Mia Fuller netted 10 points while dishing a team-high seven assists. She also collected three rebounds while swiping three steals, and Gianna Henriques scored 10 points, snatched seven boards, swatted a game-high five shots, and dished two assists.
 
Medgar Evers looked upset-minded in the opening 3:54 of the contest, building an early 11-4 advantage thanks to six points from Djibring, another four from Davis, and a converted freebee by Hailey Broderick. Hunter responded with a 16-6 spurt to end the quarter, with Charles accounting for seven of the team's 16 points during that aforementioned run. After 10 minutes of action, the Hawks led 20-17.
 
The second quarter served as the most dominant for the hosts, as the Hawks outscored the Cougars, 27-10. Hunter allowed just four Cougars field goals in the period, and finished the stanza with an 8-0 run to take a commanding 20-point edge into the locker room at halftime (47-27).
 
Hunter's biggest lead of the third quarter was 24 points, an advantage it took four times, before a run of five consecutive points by the Cougars (three from Davis, and two from Lyons) brought Medgar Evers to within 19, 61-42. A 6-2 run from the Hawks over a span of 1:27 put the hosts back up 23 (67-44), before Lyons converted on a bucket just before the buzzer to send pull the Cougars to within 21 as time expired on the third.
 
Once the game headed into the fourth quarter, the Hawks solidified the CUNYAC victory, going up by as many as 38 points (89-51) before winning the game by 30 (90-60).
 
The Hawks were way more efficient shooting the basketball on the evening, connecting on 38 of 71 shot attempts (53.2 percent), while also sinking nine of 12 shots from the stripe (75 percent). On the flip side, Medgar Evers earned just a 31 percent conversion rate (22-71), and hit 16 out of 28 shots from the line (57.1 percent).

Medgar Evers lost the game despite holding a 44-41 edge on the glass. The Hawks, though, held edges in assists (25-14), steals (19-10), and blocked shots (10-4). Hunter also won the turnover battle, committing 21 miscues, while Medgar Evers had 27.
 
The Cougars will cap their 2025-2026 season on Tuesday evening, as the team will travel York College Gymnasium in Jamaica, NY to clash with the Cardinals in CUNYAC action. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
