Cougars' women's basketball program honors four seniors prior to team's CUNYAC loss to Beavers; Djibring posts tenth double-double despite defeat

The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC game on Wednesday evening, falling to the Beavers of the CCNY by a score of 67-51 on Senior Night. The game took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 2-20 on the 2025-2026 campaign (1-11 CUNYAC), while the visitors improved to 6-15 on the year (4-8 CUNYAC).

Prior to the action, the Medgar Evers Department of Athletics took a few moments to honor seniors Bryanna Merger, Nana Samake, Alexis Davis, and Jennifer Metra, in a special ceremony. After some heartfelt sentiments were read, Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy and Head Coach Rodney Carr presented all four student-athletes with a commemorative action shot posters, as well as bouquets of flowers, in a show of appreciation of their dedication to the program during their tenures at the institution. The student-athletes posed for photos with their teammates, family members, and friends, before saluting the crowd at the Cougars Cave in what was an emotional scene.

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, newcomer Moutiatou Djibring continued her stellar recent play, as the standout posted her sixth consecutive double-double, and 10th for the season, by netting a game-high 26 points, and ripping down a game-high 20 rebounds. Davis added nine points (5-6 FT), six rebounds, and three steals, and Enphani Huskey contributed six points and four rebounds.

In the victory for the Beavers, Ashley Subervi netted a team-high 16 points while collecting eight rebounds, dishing three assists, and swiping three steals. Blessings Joseph-Pascall netted 15 points, collected nine rebounds, and posted game-highs of nine assists and eight steals. Ashley Colon contributed 11 points and three boards, and Jocelyn Ramos (nine points, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists) and Amanda Fisher (eight points, 11 rebounds, game-high four blocks, two steals) both played pivotal roles in CCNY's win.

The Beavers led the game from start to finish in the CUNYAC clash. Ahead 7-6 just 3:19 in, the Beavers rattled off 11 consecutive points, highlighted by Blessings' four points, and Colon's three, to take an 18-7 advantage. CCNY bumped that edge to 15 points (26-11) as time expired on the first quarter.

In a low-scoring second quarter that saw the teams combine to score just 19 points, the visitors took their biggest lead of the half, a 19-point edge (35-16), following a converted Elizabeth Herrera jumper with 2:50 left in the session. Medgar Evers did rattle off five straight points to end the quarter, thanks to a pair of free throws by Metra, a freebee by Davis, and a bucket by Djibring. At the half, the Cougars trailed 35-21.

CCNY led 48-29 with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter, but an 8-0 run by the hosts, courtesy of four points by Djibring, and two points apiece by Davis and Metra, inched Medgar Evers to within 11 (48-37) with 45 ticks left in the quarter. A converted jumper by Yasmin Loma Romero with two seconds left gave the Beavers a 50-37 advantage after 30 minutes of action.

Unfortunately for Medgar Evers, the Cougars never got any closer than 13 points down, as CCNY went up by as many as 22 points (66-44) before going on to capture the CUNYAC clash by 16 (67-51).

For the evening, CCNY earned a conversion rate of 35.6 percent (26-73), while misfiring on 10 free throws (12-22, 54.5 percent). Medgar Evers drained just 19 of 71 shot attempts (26.8 percent), while missing 12 freebees (13-25, 52 percent). The Cougars held a 58-50 advantage on the boards, but the Beavers held edges in assists (17-11), steals (18-10), and blocked shots (4-2). CCNY also won the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues, while Medgar Evers finished with 30.
