Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Medgar Evers women's soccer team allowed seven first-half goals as they dropped a 7-0 decision to Manhattanville College on the road in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
The Cougars (0-10) got their lone shot of the game from
Claudemar Seneus (Brooklyn, N.Y./H.S. for Public Services), but could not put it on goal. In the net,
Marlene Thompson (Linden, Guyana/Mackenzie [Guyana]) played tough by stopping nine shots on goal in a losing effort.
Christie DeMarco led the way for the Valiants (4-5-1), who recorded a hat trick in the victory. Kerri Durkin added a goal and an assist while Christie Freer, Dani Sullivan and Karen Garces each tallied a goal as they earned their third win in four matches.
Starting off the offense early, DeMarco netted the first goal of the game at 5:29 on a one-on-one chance against Thompson. Less than a minute later, Durkin broke away from the pack and put Manhattanville up two. Following DeMarco's second goal at 7:47, the Valiants would get a long shot from Sullivan that beat the keeper from 20 yards out.
They would close out the half with three more scores, including two goals in just 30 seconds of play from Freer (32:19) and Garces (32:49) as they pulled away from Medgar Evers.
Up next for the Cougars is a CUNYAC showdown with John Jay College Saturday morning. Start time is set for 9:30 a.m. at Randall's Island Field 45.
