Women's Basketball Falls to the Merchant Marine Academy on the Road

Box Score KING'S POINT, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end throughout the game as they dropped a non-conference decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on the road, 67-36, Thursday night at Liebertz Gym.

Junior Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y./Flushing) posted her third double-double of the season for the Lady Cougars (0-10), grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds with 11 points in a losing effort. Ashley Desir (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) added 12 points, including a perfect three-for-three from three-point range, with four rebounds. Janaisha Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lafayette) chipped in with nine points, five boards and two assists.

Tichina Carmon tallied a double-double for the Mariners (4-2), scoring 12 points and collecting a team-high 13 rebounds. Jenna Wetherington added 12 points of her own in the win, while Myckenzie Toler and Gabrielle Salazar each chipped in with eight points.

Medgar Evers were held to just 26.8% (15-for-46) from the field on the night. The USMMA outrebounded the Lady Cougars 50-38, leading to 27 second chance points. On the offensive side, they also allowed the Mariners to control inside, owning a 34-12 advantage in points in the paint.

This was the final women's basketball game before the Christmas break, with the next game for the Lady Cougars being a home matchup on January 3, 2016 at the Cougars Cave. Tip time is set for 2:00 p.m.
