Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's basketball team fell behind double figures early in the first, and could not battle back as they lost wire-to-wire to borough and CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College, 90-32, Monday night at the West Quad Center.
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y./Newtown) led the Lady Cougars (0-9, 0-3 CUNYAC) with 12 points and added four rebounds. They also got 11 points from
Nia Tompkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Young Women's Leadership Academy), including three three-pointers and two steals.
Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y./Flushing) and
Ashley Desir (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) each grabbed seven rebounds in a losing effort.
The Bulldogs (5-3, 2-0 CUNYAC) were paced by Maya Ajee-Thomas, who tallied 20 points on 10-of-11 shooting along with six rebounds. Justine Vento added 15 points of her own, while Olivia Colbert notched a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards in the victory.
Brooklyn College erupted at the opening tip, scoring 19 straight points in less than six minutes to put the game out of reach in the first quarter. The Bulldogs took advantage of 28 Medgar Evers turnovers in the game, and converted those into 30 points. They held the Lady Cougars to just 24.0% shooting, while connecting on 50.7% of their shots and totaled 56 points in the paint.
Medgar Evers will seek for their first win when they face off with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Thursday night on the road. First tip is set for 7:00 p.m. in Kings Point.
