BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Coming after the team's first win of the season, the Medgar Evers women's basketball team head back home for a CUNYAC matchup with the College of Staten Island Friday night at the Cougars Cave.
The Lady Cougars (1-13, 1-6 CUNYAC) defeated the Bloodhounds 68-51 Wednesday night at the Doghouse in Manhattan. They were paced by
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who posted her second double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) in just two games played with the team.
Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) secured her fifth double-double on the season, grabbing a team-best 14 boards along with 11 points.
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) averages 16.5 points per game to lead the team, which is sixth in the conference, and fourth in the CUNYAC with 12.3 rebounds per contest. At 10.8 points per game,
Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) paces the squad with 33 three-pointers on the season (tied for fifth in CUNYAC), while Mullings is fifth in the conference with 11.3 boards per game with 9.4 points per game.
They will be taking on the Dolphins (9-6, 5-2 CUNYAC), who is tied for second in the conference. Staten Island is coming off a stretch where they took two of the last three matchups, including wins over CCNY and York (N.Y.).
Christina Pasaturo paces the team with a team-high 17.1 points (fifth in CUNYAC), 6.3 rebounds (15th) and a team-best 6.6 assists per game (second). They are led on the glass by Samantha Flecker, who corrals 8.5 rebounds per
game and is second with 15.7 per game (ninth in CUNYAC).
The Dolphins also have a great set of newcomers, with three different players earning CUNYAC Rookies of the Week this season so far in Angelique Price, Rosa Perone and Nicole Vierno.
Medgar Evers will have a tough task as the ninth-best team in defense going against a CSI team who scores the most points in the conference with 74.7 points per game. They are also the second-best shooting team in the CUNYAC (38.5%) and the most efficient team from beyond the arc. The two teams are the top two rebounding squads with the Lady Cougars (45.6) earning a slight edge to the Dolphins (45.5).
