Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A first-quarter offensive surge proved to be too much as the Medgar Evers women's basketball team lost to the College of Staten Island in CUNYAC play, 79-60, Friday night at the Cougars Cave.
The Lady Cougars (1-14, 1-7 CUNYAC) got great performances in a losing effort.
Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) led the team with 20 points, including six three-pointers, along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured her eighth double-double, tallying 19 points and corralling 16 boards, while
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed 12 rebounds with nine points.
Christina Pasaturo paced the Dolphins (10-6, 6-2 CUNYAC) in the win with a game-high 26 points, including five triples, to go with seven assists and seven rebounds. Samantha Flecker posted a double-double of her own, with 20 points with 10 boards.
Staten Island roared out of the gate with a high-octane offense in the first quarter, including an 18-3 run after trailing 14-13 to close out the stanza to move ahead 32-17 and never looked back. They shot a blistering 59.3% in the first half and finished with a field-goal percentage of 45.2%.
In the defeat, Medgar Evers earned a slight edge on the glass, grabbing 48 rebounds to CSI's 44. Â They also took advantage of offensive boards, scoring 21 second-chance points. From beyond the arc, the Lady Cougars connected on 10 three-pointers in the contest, including shooting 5-for-11 in the second half. The Dolphins dominated down low, with a 30-16 scoring advantage in the paint.
