Lady Cougars Gameday Preview: Women's Basketball vs. Baruch College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- As the calendar turns to January 2016, the Medgar Evers women's basketball team looks to secure a CUNYAC win against Baruch College as part of a four-game stretch against conference opponents.

The Lady Cougars (0-10, 0-3 CUNYAC) looks to kick off the new year with their first win of the season. Their last game played was against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy where they lost 67-36 on December 10th. They are led on the offensive end by Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who averages a team-high and sixth-best in CUNYAC 16.9 points and 13.7 rebounds per game (fourth-best in the conference). Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) is second on the team, chipping in with 10.8 points per contest along with a team-best 23 three-pointers made, while Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) posts a near double-double each game with 10.9 boards and 9.8 points.

Facing them is a Lady Bearcats team (3-4, 2-1 CUNYAC) who are coming off a stretch of December facing CUNYAC foes Hunter College, Staten Island, and York (N.Y.) where they earned a 2-1 record against them. In their last game, they lost to #18-ranked Tufts College on December 29th. Topping Baruch on the offensive end is one of the best scorers in the conference in Jacqueline Kennedy, who ranks third in the CUNYAC with 19.1 points per game and second with 14.6 boards per contest. Veronica Ganzi is their best outside shooter, averaging 17.9 points per game (fourth in CUNYAC) and a team-high 19 three-pointers.

In their previous meetings last season, Medgar Evers was swept in the season series with losses on January 3rd and January 30th of 2015 against Baruch. Tip time for Sunday's game is set for 2:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
