Box Score PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – After taking a lead into intermission, the Medgar Evers struggled in the second half as they let their advantage slip away as they lost to the University of Valley Forge, 62-43, Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania.
Freshman
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Lady Cougars (1-19) with 14 points along with five rebounds, while
Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fell one board shy of a double-double scoring 10 points along with nine rebounds.
Kimonia Mullings (Flushing, N.Y.) corralled eight rebounds, while
Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points in a losing effort.
Jhanel Brown posted a big effort for the Patriots (9-7), recording a double-double in the win. She totaled 23 points and 25 rebounds, while Mikala Brinson (16 points, 10 assists) tallied a double-double of her own.
The first half saw the game go back-and-forth between the teams with four ties and nine lead changes. Medgar Evers would score seven of the last nine points in the second quarter as they were ahead 25-24 at the half.
Valley Forge then unleashed a 12-0 run during the first five minutes of the third quarter, and held the Lady Cougars to just six field goals as they never relinquished the lead again. Brown had 17 points and 16 boards in the second half alone to lead the charge. The Patriots secured a 48-27 edge on the rebounding edge, and scored 38 points in the paint.
The team will play next on the road against conference opponent Hunter College Tuesday night as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
