Medgar Evers’ Patrick Gentles Eyes Big Senior Season and a Championship

Medgar Evers' Patrick Gentles Eyes Big Senior Season and a Championship
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.)Patrick Gentles, a junior defender for the men's soccer team, originally from Jamaica, has been the anchor for this defense since he arrived on campus in 2014. Patrick has been a standout in the classroom as well maintaining a 3.37 GPA and he hopes to graduate with a degree in biology next spring.

Prior to attending Medgar Evers College Patrick was unsure of what his next step would be after high school. Originally from Portmore, Jamaica, he had completed high school there before coming to the United States. He had trouble deciding what would be the best place for him to get a quality education while also continuing to playing soccer. His sister knew the former men's soccer coach at Medgar and got them connected and showed Patrick that this could be the perfect fit for him. Eventually Patrick sat down with the athletic director, Renee Bostic, and the current coach at that time and told them he would be attending Medgar.

This season has unfortunately come to an end and although the men's soccer team was not as successful as they had hoped, they got valuable experience and learned a lot that will only make them better next season. Patrick enjoyed playing with his teammates this year as they were a great group to be a part of. "My teammates are a group of great young men that I appreciated being out on the pitch with. Through the good and the bad moments, we kept working hard and motivating each other to bring out the best in us."

As far as next season goes, Patrick feels him and his teammates can build on the success from this season and use everything coach Jack Thelusma has instilled in them to become a better team. He knows that next year could be a big season for the men's soccer team and has hopes to bring back a CUNYAC championship to Medgar.

Patrick works hard to keep up his very good grades as well as balancing soccer. He says his determination, self-confidence and eager to be successful in life is what drives him in the classroom. He wants to be great at whatever he does in life and right now he is achieving that. A scholar in the classroom and a leader on the field. We wish Patrick and the entire men's soccer team all the best next season.
