Box Score Women's Basketball Loses 60-46 to New Rochelle in 18th Annual Betty Shabazz Tournament
(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Medgar Evers women's basketball team hosted the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle in the opening round of the 18
th annual Betty Shabazz Tournament hosted at Medgar Evers College. The Lady Cougars got down early in the first quarter trailing 16-8 but were able to cut the deficit to three going in to the locker room. Medgar Evers struggled to shoot the ball going 8-33 (24%) in the first half while also committing 14 turnovers.
Senior guard
Elesha Dieudonne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the lone bright spot for the Lady Cougars notching her fourth straight double-double while scoring 27 points on 10-23 (43%) shooting while grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds including eight offensive. The achilles heel for Medgar Evers was the free throw line. They went 3-9 (33%) in the first half and only made 10 of 22 (45%) for the game.
Medgar Evers could not slow down New Rochelle's
Dar'Neisha Brice who was unstoppable on the night scoring 32 points on 14 of 30 (46%) shooting with five assists and five steals. With the loss Medgar Evers falls to 0-4 on the season while New Rochelle improves to 1-0. The women's basketball team is back in action tomorrow Sunday, November 27
th when they take on Manhattanville College in the loser's bracket game at 1 p.m.
