(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – Medgar Evers women's basketball hosted the Highlanders of Cairn University Friday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the Cougars' Cave. The Lady Cougars led at halftime but ran out of steam in the second half eventually falling 64-53. With the loss, Medgar Evers is still winless at 0-10 while Cairn improves to 4-3 on the year.
 
            Medgar Evers played their best basketball of the season in the first half moving the ball well on offense and cutting down on their turnovers. The Lady Cougars executed well offensively shooting 12-35 (34%) and knocking down three threes in the first half. They led by one going into the locker room but they could not maintain the hot shooting. In the second half they were outscored 35-23 making just nine shots from the field.
 
            The Lady Cougars were led by senior forward Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Janaisha Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who both scored in double figures. Mullings scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds while Carrington scored 12 to go along with two steals.
 
            The Highlanders were led by E.J. Hartzler who scored a game-high 17 points while knocking down five threes. Women's basketball is back in action Wednesday, January 4th when they visit Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC matchup beginning at 5 p.m.
