Women's Basketball Loses On the Road to CUNYAC Foe Staten Island

Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Medgar Evers women's basketball team fell behind early, and failed to get back in the game as they lost to CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island on the road, 80-34, Tuesday night at the Staten Island Sports and Recreation Center.

Senior guard Nia Tompkins (Queens, N.Y.) led the Lady Cougars (2-21, 2-12 CUNYAC) with 14 points, including four three-pointers, in a losing effort. She also added five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Kimonia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) corralled a game-high 21 rebounds with six points, while Danyelle Foster (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points and 10 boards.

For the Dolphins, Christina Pasaturo led four players in double figures with 22 points along with six rebounds and six assists. Samantha Flecker poured in 21 points to go with seven boards, while Victoria Gallinaro (17 points, seven assists) and Nicole Vierno (10 points, 11 rebounds) also compiled double-figure point totals.

Medgar Evers was held to just 17.4 % shooting throughout the game, while CSI scored at a 47.8% clip in the win. The Lady Cougars did secure a slight 49-46 edge on the rebounds, but the Dolphins scored 42 points in the paint and forced 31 turnovers leading to 38 points.

Up next for the Lady Cougars is a home matchup against Brooklyn College in the "Battle for Bedford Avenue" Blackout Game Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
