BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- For his outstanding performance all season, Medgar Evers senior
Matthew Lee (Bloomfield, N.J.) was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) All-Met Division III First Team, as announced by the association Wednesday morning.
The All-Met First and Second Team players and coaches will be honored April 12 at the 83rd NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY. This adds to numerous postseason accolades Lee has won in his lone season with the Cougars. He was also named to the ECAC Division III First Team, CUNYAC All-Star first team, D3hoops.com All-Atlantic first team, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Atlantic District second team.
The senior averaged 29.1 points per game, which ranked first in CUNYAC and second in all of NCAA Division III) along with 7.1 rebounds (5th in CUNYAC) and 2.7 assists per game (leads the team). Lee finished 13 games with 30-plus points, including conference-best 50-point effort in win on January 30th.
Lee helped Medgar Evers to a 10-win improvement from last season (13), including a six-game winning streak to close the regular season. He helped pace the team to berths in both the CUNYAC Championship and ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournaments. The guard connected on 260 field goals made (first in CUNYAC, second in D-III) along with 173 free throws made (first in CUNYAC, 7th in D-III) at a clip of 85.6% from the charity stripe (tops in CUNYAC).
