Lady Cougars Lose Close To The Cardinals

The Cougars' women's' basketball team played in their ninth conference matchup of the season against York College on Tuesday night at 5:30pm. The Cougars loses a close one by a score of 65-72 making them 0-9 in conference play so far in the season.

Leading the Lady Cougars in points was Junior Center Cyndi Whyte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with a season-high 27 points off 50% shooting and was also able to reach a double-double totaling 13 rebounds in 29 minutes of play. Freshman Guard Malecka Davis (Brooklyn, NY) had the second highest points for the Lady Cougars scoring 18 points off 55% shooting in 21 minutes of play. Freshman Guard Sharena Mellor (Brooklyn, NY) tied the team-high in rebounds with 13 in 34 minutes of play. Lady Cougars were able to reach their season high in total points with 65 but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals was able to score 31 points in the fourth quarter to take the W. Lady Cougars led the game for about 30 minutes in the match and their largest lead was 12 in the second quarter.

For the Cardinals, Karen Bellamy led her team to the win by contributing a near triple-double with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assist playing all 40 minutes of the match. 

Lady Cougars continue their week by returning back to Cougars Cave to go against conference rival Brooklyn College on Wednesday, January 24th at 5:00pm.
