The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team opened their 2018-19 season with a nonconference road game against Cedar Crest College on Wednesday, November 14, in Allentown, PA.
The Cougars (0-1) fell to the Falcons (1-1) by a final score of 48-38. MEC held a 21-20 halftime lead, but were out-rebounded 50-29 over the course of the entire contest.
Sophomore
Jessycca Myers led Medgar Evers with 12 points in her debut in black and gold. Myers added a game-high six steals and a team-best-tying eight rebounds.
Freshman
Czarina Velazquez added eight boards, four steals and five points in her collegiate debut, while senior
Janaisha Carrington contributed a team-leading six assists in addition to her seven points and five rebounds.
Cedar Crest's Meghan Gregory led all players with 19 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocks.
The squad returns to action on Friday, November 16, for a 7:00 pm matchup against Ramapo College. The game is part of the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament, which is being held Friday and Saturday, November 16-17, at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ.
