The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team was defeated by Lasell College at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday, November 24.
The Cougars (0-5) fell to the Lasers (3-0) by a final score of 70-39 in their first game of the 20th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial. Lasell moves on to play SUNY-Old Westbury in the championship game tomorrow at 3:00 pm, while MEC will face Simmons University in the consolation game at 1:00 pm.
The black-and-gold fought hard against the Lasers' full-court press defense and trailed only 24-14 after the first quarter. Lasell's constant substitutions of up to five players at a time kept their legs fresh and ultimately proved to be a decisive strategy.
Jessycca Myers posted game-high totals of 14 points and 17 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, and added two assists and two steals.
Cyndi Whyte contributed 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, while
Destiny Simmons recorded six points and five boards.
Tune in to the Medgar Evers College Athletics Youtube channel at 1:00 pm tomorrow to catch the consolation game of the Betty Shabazz Memorial between MEC and Simmons. The championship game will air at 3:00 pm. Both games will be played at the Cougars Cave.
