The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team faced the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Tuesday, December 11.
The Cougars (0-11) fell to the Dolphins (2-6) by a final score of 69-54.
Things looked bleak right from the opening tip-off as MEC found themselves behind 10-0 within three minutes, and the score was 18-8 after the first quarter. The black-and-gold fought back in the second quarter, with
Jessycca Myers hitting back-to-back and-ones to make the score 21-18. Myers scored the Cougars' first 12 points of the quarter and MEC entered the half down 31-23.
The game was back-and-forth in the second half, with Medgar Evers unable to close the gap but CMSV unable to pull away. With 6:29 left in the fourth,
Janaisha Carrington drove to the basket and dropped a dime to
Britiny McIntosh for an easy layup to make the score 55-50, but the Dolphins pulled away from that point, closing the game on a 14-4 run.
Myers led all scorers with 21 points and added five rebounds, three blocks and three steals. McIntosh contributed 11 rebounds (seven offensive), her fourth consecutive game with double-digit rebounds, and added eight points, while Carrington tallied nine assists.
Khalia Sprattley and
Destiny Simmons contirbuted 12 and eight points, respectively, to the Cougars' effort.
After a lengthy layoff for exams, the team returns to action for a CUNYAC contest against CCNY on Thursday, January 3, which will be held at the Cougars Cave at 6 pm.
