The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team faced Alfred State College on Sunday, December 2, at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY.
The Cougars (2-5) fell to the Pioneers (5-4) by a final score of 88-79.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with Alfred jumping out to a 14-8 lead before the Cougars fought back to tie the game at 31. A
Sean Webb layup gave MEC a 37-36 lead with 1:36 left in the half, but the Pioneers closed the period on a 6-0 run which left Alfred up five at the break.
After Medgar fought back and took a 51-50 lead, the Pioneers replied with an 11-3 run, with seven of Alfred's points coming at the charity stripe. Although the Cougars fought back to make the score 61-60, ASC held on to their lead for the remainder of the contest.
Justin Sutton led all scorers with 37 points on 16-of-27 shooting, adding four rebounds and three steals.
Isaiah Garvey-Mwazi nailed all three of his three pointers, while Webb also contributed nine points as well as three steals.
Mousa Sinera added eight points and nine rebounds.
The squad returns to action on Tuesday, December 4, for a CUNYAC contest on the road against Lehman College in the Bronx, NY. Tip-off will be at 7:00 pm.
