The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team played a CUNYAC road contest against Lehman College on Tuesday, December 4, in the Bronx, NY.
The Cougars (0-9, 0-2 CUNYAC) fell to the Lightning (1-5, 1-1) by a final score of 46-45 in an amazing game.
This was the closest Medgar Evers had come to a victory all season, but things looked bleak when Lehman capped a 16-0 run to take a 46-29 lead with just eight minutes remaining. Incredibly, the Cougars responded with a 16-0 run of their own, with
Jessycca Myers hitting three field goals and two free throws,
Khalia Sprattley hitting her fourth and fifth three-pointers of the game and
Janaisha Carrington hitting a jumper.
Down 46-45, the Lighting having not scored in almost eight minutes and holding the ball with 38 seconds left, the Cougars opted not to foul until there were about eight seconds left. After a Lehman turnover, MEC had one last chance with five seconds left, but were unable to drive the length of the court and hit a game-winning shot.
Sprattley led Medgar Evers with 19 points, while Myers contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Britiny McIntosh snatched a game-high 18 rebounds and added three steals.
The Cougars return to action on Friday, December 7, for another CUNYAC contest, this time against the College of Staten Island. The game will take place at the Cougars Cave and will begin at 6:00 pm.
