Lady Cougars Tops John Jay For First Official Win Of The Season

The Cougars' women's' basketball team played in their thirteenth conference matchup of the season against John Jay College on Tuesday night at 6:00pm. The Cougars win their first official game of the season (CSI had to forfeit the match on 1/30) by a score of 51-41 making them 2-11 in conference play so far in the season.

Lady Cougars had two players in double figures. Freshman Guard Malecka Davis (Brooklyn, NY) led the Cougars to the win by reaching a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and tied the game high with 3 steals in 32 minutes of play. Freshman Guard Destiny Simmons (Brooklyn, NY) was close to reaching a double-double herself by contributing with 15 points (60% on the field & 75 on the 3pt line) and 9 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Freshman Guard Sharena Mellor (Brooklyn, NY) led the Cougars in rebounds collecting 13 (7 offensively). Junior Guard Tanayah Williams (Brooklyn, NY) led the Cougars in assist with 4. Cougars as a team led for majority of the game not giving John Jay a lead once in the match. 

For the bloodhounds, Shaquana Vaughn reached a double-double contributing 16 points and 13 rebounds.   

Lady Cougars' continue their conference play this week by returning home to go against conference rival Lehman College on Thursday, February 8th at 5:00pm.
