The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team faced CUNYAC foe York College at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY, on Friday, January 11.
The Cougars (5-10, 4-3 CUNYAC) defeated the Cardinals (5-11, 1-7) by a final score of 85-79.
Medgar jumped out to a scorching start from the field, with
Justin Sutton scoring 13 points in the first five minutes to put the black-and-gold up 22-9. The Cougar lead was as high as 14 but York hung around and managed to enter halftime trailing only by four points.
The second half was also close, with Medgar unable to pull away, and York had chances to make it a one-possession game late, but the Cougars got stops and hit shots when they needed to and were able to fend off the feisty Cardinals.
Sutton led all scorers with 29 points, while
Joancarlo Bonilla and
Sean Webb added 17 and 16, respectively.
Mousa Sinera and
Timothy Bush totaled 16 and 15 rebounds, respectively, helping Medgar Evers out-rebound the Cardinals 64-41.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, January 16, for a road CUNYAC matchup against Hunter College at 7 pm.
