The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNYAC contest against Hunter College on Wednesday, January 16 at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY.
The Cougars (6-10, 5-3 CUNYAC) defeated the Hawks (4-12, 2-7) by a final score of 78-73.
Medgar started the game on fire and locked down Hunter on defense, quickly taking a 17-1 lead. The team in purple hung around, and managed to limit their halftime deficit to 14.
The Cougars continued to withstand the Hawk rally and hit their free throws down the stretch, closing out their fourth victory in five games, all against CUNYAC competition.
Justin Sutton led the Cougars with 17 points and added five rebounds and five assists, while
Jafet Thomas posted a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The squad returns to action this Friday for another road CUNYAC contest, this one the Battle of Bedford Avenue against Brooklyn College at 7 pm.
