The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNYAC game against Brooklyn College on Friday, January 18.
The Cougars (6-11, 5-4 CUNYAC) fell to the Bulldogs (10-7, 5-3) by a final score of 88-83.
Despite falling behind 18-7, Medgar was able to reduce the deficit to five points by halftime, with
Darrell Spaulding's nine points on three treys leading the Cougars at intermission.
In the second half, MEC outperformed Brooklyn in terms of shooting, with the black and gold hitting a higher percentage of their field goals (54.3% to 37.5%) and three-pointers (40% to 25%). Rebounding was about even as well, but the difference was that Brooklyn shot 29 free throws in the second half, hitting 21, while the Cougars were just 5-10 from the charity stripe in the second period.
Jafet Thomas dominated down the stretch, hitting 8-of-9 with 17 points in the second half and finishing with a game-high 21 points. He also added eight rebounds and finished 10-12 from the floor.
Joancarlo Bonilla and
Sean Webb contributed 16 and 12 points, respectively, while
Isaiah Garvey-Mwazi posted career highs of 10 points and six rebounds.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, January 21, for a road contest against Clarks Summit University at 6 pm in Clarks Summit, PA.
