The Medgar Evers Cougars women's basketball team played a home CUNYAC contest against Baruch College at the Cougars Cave on Tuesday, January 29.
The Cougars (1-20, 1-11 CUNYAC) fell to the Bearcats (5-12, 4-7) by a final score of 74-64.
Medgar jumped out to an early lead, holding as much as a seven-point advantage before ending the first quarter up 16-11. Baruch, however, began the second quarter on an 18-6 run and carried a 31-28 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, the black-and-gold were unable to pull within five points. The light-blue's lead stretched as high as 14 as the Bearcats closed out the game.
Cyndi Whyte led MEC with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, adding three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Jessycca Myers (14 pts/6 reb),
Destiny Simmons (11 pts/3 stl),
Janaisha Carrington (9 pts/6 ast), and
Semina Radoncic (4 pts/9 reb) were also notable contributors to the Cougar effort.Â
The biggest difference in the game appeared to be offensive efficiency, with Baruch hitting 52.3% of their field goals compared to 38.8% for Medgar.Â
The Cougars return to action on Friday, February 1, as they travel to CCNY to take on the Beavers in New York, NY, at 5 pm.
