The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team played a road CUNYAC contest at Baruch College on Saturday, January 5, in New York, NY.
The Cougars (0-13, 0-5 CUNYAC) fell to the Bearcats (2-8, 1-4) by a final score of 71-59.
Medgar and Baruch were tied 10-10 after the first quarter and the black-and-gold were ahead 20-12 in the second quarter after a
Cyndi Whyte layup, but from there Baruch closed the half on a 17-0 run.
In the second half, the Cougars fought back, improving their field-goal percentage from 25.71% in the first half to 42.11% in the second half. However, the Bearcats also upped their fg% from 27.78% in the first half to 51.52% in the second as the game opened up.
Cyndi Whyte had a monster game with 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.
Janaisha Carrington (13 points, four rebounds and four assists),
Jessycca Myers (12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks) and
Destiny Simmons (eight points, six rebounds and five assists) also contributed strong numbers to the Cougar effort.
The team returns to action on Monday, January 7 at 6 pm for an away CUNYAC matchup against John Jay College, who defeated Baruch 71-68 in their matchup.
