BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team hosted Cairn University at the Cougars Cave on Tuesday, November 19.
The Cougars fell to the Highlanders by a final score of 103-97.
Medgar trailed immediately, falling behind 9-0 and trailing by as much as 21 points in the first half. The Cougars hung around and the score at halftime was 59-41.
Despite the large Cougar deficit, the crowd still enjoyed the action as the black-and-gold connected on a number of acrobatic baskets, including a
Naquavah Jackson fast break dunk. The Cougars trailed by as much as 28 points, but chipped away at the deficit until it was 14 points. It would have been easy to throw in the towel and slow the game down to limit the team's deficit, but the Cougars impressed everybody by continuing to push the tempo and frantically making their comeback. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to complete the comeback.
Elias Scott led four Medgar players in double figures with 19 points, while
James Julien hit six of eight three pointers for an 18-point night. Jackson finished with 17 points and five rebounds, while
Marcus Lewis contributed eight points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, November 21, with an exhibition contest at Division I St. Francis College - Brooklyn at 7 pm.
