Women's Basketball Falls to Defending CUNYAC Champs

NEW YORK, NY - The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team opened its 2019-20 CUNY Athletic Conference play with a road contest at Hunter College on Tuesday, December 3.

The Cougars fell to the defending CUNYAC champions Hawks by a final score of 93-43.

The first quarter was very rough for the black-and-gold, who fell behind 14-0 and were trailing 35-9 after the opening 10 minutes. The second quarter was not any better and the Cougars entered the intermission down 58-16.

However, the Cougars responded well in the second half, outscoring Hunter 17-16 in the third quarter, but Medgar was still trailing by 41 points entering the fourth quarter.

Cyndi Whyte recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, finishing an efficient five-of-eight on field goals. Samsara Paul and Vanessa Zambrano also scored in double figures, with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Zambrano and Semina Radoncic grabbed six rebounds apiece.

The shorthanded Cougars were missing two of their regular starters in this contest. They may return when teh Cougars next take the court, this Friday, December 6, at the Cougars Cave. The team hosts the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island at 6 pm.
