The Medgar Evers College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the 2019 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which MEC hosted at the New Balance Armory in New York, NY, on Sunday, February 24.

The men's team placed 5th, while the women's team finished 6th. CCNY and Lehman tied for the men's title, while the Beavers of Hamilton Heights, Harlem claimed the women's team championship.

Three student-athletes on the men's team became CUNYAC champions on Sunday: Aleigh McIntyre in the 60m, Omolade Akinde in the 60m hurdles, and Neron George in the shot put.

McIntyre captured the sprint in a time of 6.84, winning by .35 seconds and posting the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA Division-III this season. The top 16 athletes in each event over the course of the season qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 8-9 in Boston, MA. McIntyre will have another chance to improve on his time at the ECAC D-III Championships this upcoming weekend on March 1 and 2, which are also being held at the New Balance Armory.

Akinde won the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.66, the fastest time by any CUNYAC student-athlete in the event this season, while George's throw of 11.39m was his second-best throw of the season. Both Cougars won their events by relatively large margins.

On the women's side, Tasheka James posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.29 in the 60m preliminaries, sneaking just under the 8.30 qualifying mark. James placed 6th in the final. Celine Raphael was the highest-placed Lady Cougar on the afternoon, taking fourth in the shot put.

The qualified Cougars will compete on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, at the ECAC Championships, followed by the NCAA Championships on March 8-9.
