JAMAICA, NY - The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team competed at the York College Tri-Match on Saturday, September 14.
The Cougars (0-7, 0-1 CUNYAC) fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn in straight sets, before dropping the match against the host Cardinals in four sets in their CUNYAC opener.
Against St. Joseph's, the Cougars defended well, with
Sashamoni Burnett and
Melisa Wright each contributing 10 digs to the Cougars' total of 33. However, the Cougars recorded only nine kills as a team compared to the Bears' 26, and allowed 14 service aces while firing in only six of their own, with Wright contributing three and

The second set was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than two points until York took a 22-19 lead, which they just held on to. In the third set, York led the entire set and were able to pull away in the end.
In the fourth and final set, Medgar amassed a 14-5 lead and it appeared as though the Cougars would even the match. However, the Cardinals fought back to the make the score 20-20, and, despite the black-and-gold taking a 23-22 lead, York was able to win the last three points to win the match.
Carnegie and Burnett led the Cougars with 12 assists and nine kills, respectively, while Wright,
Diana Williams, and
