BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a home CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) game against Hunter College at the Cougars Cave on Wednesday, January 22.
The Cougars (5-12, 2-5 CUNYAC) fell to the Hawks (4-13, 4-4) by a final score of 101-74.
Medgar took an early 4-2 lead, but that was the last time they would lead Hunter all game. Halfway through the first half, the Cougars found themselves down 28-9, and they trailed by as many as 31 points in the first half. At the intermission, the Cougars trailed 58-28.
The black-and-gold began to chip away at the deficit at the start of the second half, but they were never able to close the deficit below 22 points and Hunter ran away with the victory.
Dimitri Weeks led Medgar with 17 points, adding three rebounds and a block.
Devin Berrios (13 points) and
Nagay Herrera Jr. (11) joined Weeks in double figures, while
Marcus Lewis added six assists.
Medgar mainly struggled to contain the Hawks on the boards, as they grabbed only 30 rebounds compared to 56 for Hunter.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, January 25, as they take on Lehman College on the road at 3 pm.
