BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College women's basketball team played a home CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) game against Hunter College at the Cougars Cave on Wednesday, January 22.
The Cougars (2-12, 0-7 CUNYAC) fell to the Hawks (10-7, 6-2) by a final score of 97-43.
Hunter jumped out to an early 19-0 lead and the Cougars trailed 35-9 after the first quarter.
Medgar responded well in the second quarter, knocking down eight of their 16 field goal attempts and scoring 20 points in the quarter. Despite a buzzer-beating three pointer by
Onella Ireland, the Cougars trailed by 33 at halftime.
In the second half the Cougar defense clamped down, allowing only 35 points in the final 20 minutes. However, the team could not get enough buckets to close the lead Hunter had built up.

Vanessa Zambrano contributed seven points and seven assists.
The Cougars return to action on Satruday, January 25, as the team travels to the Bronx to take on Lehman College at noon.
