BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team hosted Brooklyn College at the Cougars Cave for a CUNY Athletic Conference game on Tuesday, January 28.
The Cougars (5-14, 2-7 CUNYAC) fell to the Bulldogs (9-9, 6-2) by a final score of 95-87.
Brooklyn took a quick lead and led throughout the entire first half, with their lead reaching as high as 12 points as the Cougars trailed 21-9. Medgar fought back with a 12-2 run as a
Devin Berrios jumper cut the lead to two points, and at halftime the Cougars trailed by just six points.
The second half did not start well for the black-and-gold, as soon the team trailed by 19 points midway through the half. Slowly but surely, the Cougars chipped away at their deficit, and after a
Keison McIntosh hit a three with just over a minute left, the Cougars trailed by just 6, a two-possession game.
Brooklyn stayed consistent down the stretch, however, and avoided a collapse, hitting their free throws.
McIntosh and Berrios led Medgar with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Berrios also dished out four assists.
Naquavah Jackson totaled 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while
Mousa Sinera, currently 8th in NCAA D-III in rebounds per game, posted his 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Oddly enough, all five starters (McIntosh, Berrios, Sinera,
Elias Scott, and
Marcus Lewis) each totaled exactly two steals.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 1, for an away contest at the College of Staten Island at 1 pm.
