STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNY Athletics Conference contest at the College of Staten Island on Saturday, February 1.
The Cougars fell narrowly to the Dolphins by a final score of 96-95.
Medgar Evers took an early 3-0 lead off a
Keison McIntosh triple, but it was CSI who seized control in the first half. The Dolphin lead stretched as large as 14 points with just over five minutes left in the first half, but the Cougars closed the half on an 18-8 run and by halftime, Medgar trailed 50-46.
McIntosh and
Dimitri Weeks were lights out shooting in this game, and soon, the Cougars had amassed a 13-point lead midway through the second half. Medgar led for much of the rest of the game, but Staten Island steadily chipped away at the black-and-gold advantage. CSI took the lead with five minutes left, but
Nagay Herrera Jr. put Medgar back ahead 92-91 with just over a minute left.
However, the Dolphins hit a jumper on the other end to take the lead, which they would hold on to for the rest of the game.
McIntosh finished with 30 points, 4 assists, and three rebounds, hitting 10 of 14 field goals and 8 of 11 threes. Weeks added 26 points on 12 of 14 shooting and hitting 2 of 3 threes, while Herrera added 11 points, 9 rebounds and three assists.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, February 4, as they take on Baruch College at 7:30 pm in Manhattan.
