NEW YORK, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNY Athletics Conference game at John Jay College on Wednesday, February 12.
The Cougars (6-17, 3-9 CUNYAC) fell to the Bloodhounds (16-7, 11-1) by a final score of 60-57.
Medgar jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an
Isaiah Garvey-Mwazi three and held the lead or were tied for the first 11 minutes of the game. However, John Jay went on a 9-0 run in one minute and soon held a 14-point lead by the end of the first half.
With under 13 minutes left in the game, the Cougar deficit was still 14 points.
Mousa Sinera then scored eight points in a row for the Cougars,
Marcus Lewis hit a jumper and Garvey-Mwazi hit another three, and Medgar trailed by just three points with seven and a half minutes left.
Naquavah Jackson cut the deficit to two points with a three-pointer with five and a half minutes left, but John Jay remained firm and did not yield the lead. With under two minutes left, Medgar trailed 59-57, but they could not score the rest of the game as the Bloodhounds held on for the narrow victory.
NCAA offensive rebounding leader and CUNYAC rebounding leader Sinera posted his 13th double-double of the season with 13 rebounds and 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, also dishing out two assists. Garvey-Mwazi also had a solid night with nine points, six rebounds, and four blocks.Â
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 15, for a must-win game at home against York College, in a game which will be decisive in the CUNYAC playoff race.
