BROOKLYN, NY - The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team played a road CUNY Athletics Conference game at Brooklyn College on Tuesday, February 18.
The Cougars (7-18, 4-10 CUNYAC) fell to the Bulldogs (10-15, 7-7) by a final score of 108-77. This concludes the 2019-20 regular season for men's basketball, who open the CUNYAC playoffs on Saturday.
The game against Brooklyn was meaningless for the standings, as Medgar was locked into the 6th seed in the playoffs no matter what happened. Still, the black-and-gold would have liked to have played better in this game, as they quickly fell behind 18-4 and were down by as much as 21 points when they trailed 32-11 with nine and a half minutes left.
The Cougars went on a run and cut the deficit to just seven points (38-31) after an
Isaiah Garvey-Mwazi three-pointer with under five minutes left in the half, but Brooklyn extended the lead to 16 points by halftime.
The Bulldogs took a 72-42 lead with 14 and a half minutes left. Their lead never dipped below 26 points for the remainder of the game as both teams looked to escape without any injuries.
Medgar's offensive performance was respectable as they shot 10 of 23 (43.5%) from three-point range, but the Cougar defense allowed Brooklyn to shoot 54.7% from the floor (41-75) and a scorching 51.9% (14/27) from beyond the arc.
Dimitri Weeks and
Elias Scott both led Medgar with 16 points, and both players made all three of their three-point attempts.
Mousa Sinera recorded his seventh double-double in a row, totaling 10 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals.
Medgar Evers will look to rebound from this performance by Saturday, February 22, when the #6-seeded Cougars take on #3 Lehman College on the road in the CUNYACÂ Quarterfinals at 1 pm.
